Once you have gained technician status, you will be asked to write the paper or case study, participate in a CANDO Professional Development course and meet the two-year work experience requirement.

Assessment of the work experience will be rigorous. Candidates must show that they have learned to apply the concepts, principles and tools of economic development in a professional manner. Evidence of professional competence must include letters of reference from employers, clients, community leaders, business partners and the like.

C.E.D. designation at both levels (technician and professional) is granted by a Certification Committee that is composed of two EDOs, two educators, and one representative of Corporate Canada.

Work Experience

2 years of work experience in the area of Aboriginal economic development.

CANDO Course

The CANDO course is an intensive  workshop that will address a wide range of topics including: ethics, leadership, culture and values, professional conduct and selected development issues.

Final Paper

The final paper must address issues related to Aboriginal economic development. It may be a report based on a particular project, a case study of a situation or community, or a formal research essay. Research papers or case studies will be considered for publication in the Journal of Aboriginal Economic Development so that others working in the field are kept informed about relevant issues and initiatives.
