9 Beyond the corner store, 1959

I've only been teaching at this elementary school for a few weeks, but I already know I'm going to love this job! There are a few disruptive children in my class, but most of them are well-behaved and eager to learn.

When I first introduced myself to the children, they immediately asked me if I was related to the family who own the corner store down the street. They were so excited when I told them the store had been in my family for three generations. Many of their parents buy groceries there and even some of their grandparents remember when the store first opened.

I asked my parents to come and tell my class some of their stories about the store, how they came to P.E.I. from Lebanon and Dad's adventures as a country peddler. I think my parents will have just as much fun as the kids!

The next question the children asked was, "Why aren't you married?" I just told them the truth: "Because I haven't found the right person yet." My parents ask to introduce me to "a few nice Lebanese boys" they know, but they haven't put too much pressure on me to settle down yet, unlike some of my other unmarried friends' parents!

I'd like to get married and have children of my own someday like many of my friends have already done, but I'm willing to wait a little longer. The children in my classroom keep me busy enough right now!
