Fort Steele (FS-8.134)

The Ktunaxa people held colourful Pow-wows during the summer. All the different Ktunaxa bands came together at Tobacco Plains. For up to one week they celebrated with dances, feasts and competitions like archery and wrestling.

The meat for the celebration was presented by one of the richer Ktunaxa members of the band. A dance pavilion was made with poplar and willow bush, and teepees were set up around the clearing at Edwards Lake. Costumes were made from yellow and white buckskin decorated with beautiful beads and feathers.
