 Wildhorse Creek Gold Rush

Introduction

The Gold Rush

Aboriginal Culture

Chief Isidore

Other Tribes

Once in a while Ktunaxa bands ran into groups from other nations, like the Peigans of the western prairies. Sometimes the two groups were polite to one another. Once in a while the Peigans would even come to the Kootenay trading post and trade in peace, but most of the time there would be war.

The Peigans and Ktunaxa were traditional enemies. Both groups depended on bison as a major source of food. But bison they hunted mostly lived on traditional Peigan land. Sometimes the Peigans would follow the Ktunaxa after their hunting expeditions to seek revenge for trespassing on their land. These meetings usually ended in bloody battles.
