William Macdonald

"...He married the second daughter of the late Captain Reid by whom he had a numerous family. He sat for Victoria in the Legislative Council of British Columbia in 1867 and was called to the Senate of Canada in 1871. After leaving the service of the Hudson's Bay Co. he carried on business of his own account for some years and was elected a Municipal Councilman for the city of Victoria for one term and Mayor for two terms.
Mr. Macdonald was in the public service practically for 55 years, viz, as Gold Commissioner, Collector of Customs for a short time in 1858, Captain of Militia in 1857, school Commissioner and Road Commissioner, besides the other positions described above. Mrs. Macdonald died in April 1914, after which Mr. Macdonald ceased on that account, and from his declining years, to take an active part in public life. He retired from the Senate in 1915."
