The attention of settlers, especially new arrivals, is directed to the provisions of the Prairie Fires Ordinance, violations of which are punishable by fines up to $200.00 in addition to costs and liability to civil action by parties whose property is damaged by prairie fires. Owing to the unusual heat recently experienced, the prairie grass is this season particularly dry and flammable and the least carelessness may result in widespread destruction of property and even loss of life. |
Too much caution cannot be used by parties traveling or camping to see that camp fires are properly extinguished and that no lighted matches, live cigar stubs or tobacco ashes are carelessly thrown about. Persons infringing The Prairie Fires Ordinance will be prosecuted with the utmost rigor of that law. J. R. C. HONEYMAN, Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture
