Fr. Peter Novecosky was elected as the fourth abbotordinary on July 23, 1990.

Shortly after his election he initiated a Visitation Program in the abbacy, which involved parishioners reaching out to their neighbors through a pastoral visit.

His election came at a time of continued change in the province and he became involved in these changes. As a member of the board of St. Elizabeth's Hospital he dealt with the changes in health care. He became liaison for agriculture for Saskatchewan bishops and worked with the Saskatchewan Catholic Rural Life Ministry.

He also initatiated several diocesan celebrations. This included introduction in 1992 of the annual Chrism Mass and of the Marriage Anniversary celebration. He also encouraged the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the abbacy as a diocese in 1996.
