Ktunaxa Games

The Ktunaxa/Kinbasket participated in many different recreational activities. Besides physical games, stories were and still are a very important part of Ktunaxa/Kinbasket culture as they teach life skills.

STORYTELLING

Evenings were particularly relaxing for the Ktunaxa people as this was a time of storytelling. Children would listen to stories told to them by their grandparents and other elders as they drifted off to sleep. Every story had a lesson to teach. When the children listened well, they learned about respect for community and resources. Adults had a time for their own storytelling. The children were not allowed to listen or be present when those stories were being told or the plans were being made for the next day.

GAMES

Games were used for teaching skills as well. In particular, they developed hunting techniques. Following are several popular games that are still played today.
