George, and his wife Emma Coombes came to Canada from Alvediston, England, in 1911 with their son, Jack (born 1905), and daughter Irene. George and his wife had another two kids when they came to Canada, James and Dorothy. After living on the Gene Bessette place, George ran a farm on shares for a Vernon lawyer, Mr. Cochrane, and Charlie Christien, who was running a store in Vernon. They moved to the Henderson farm and George ran the school bus to Lumby. After, they moved again to Bear Valley, where George would cut wood for the Lumby school.

George died in the early 1940's as a result of a truck accident. He jumped off the loaded truck before it was completely stopped and was run over. Mrs. Coombes died later in Kamloops. Jack went out to work at nineteen years of age for Jack Webb, Bonneau and Laviolette. He got into logging, making ties and poles, driving a truck, or anything to make a living. He bought forty acres on Rollings Lake Road, but he gave it up when water couldn't be found.

In 1963, Jack married Mona and lived in Edgewood, working for Bruce Shuddles and for B.C. Hydro until the flooding of the lake. Then they moved to Burns Lake where Mona helped raise James Coombes' ten children after his wife's death. They moved to Vernon in 1975 and came to live in Saddle Mountain Place the following year. They had two boys, Jack and Bruce. Bruce was shot accidentally shot at the age of fifteen.
