Eva Hill

Eva Hill
Born in Clayden, Oxfordshire in 1890, Eva Mary Hadland trained as a nurse. She nursed during the First World War in England and arrived in Canada in 1921. She continued her work at Mrs. Weeke's Nursing Home in Edmonton, marrying John Hill in 1933.

The entire Hill family arrived in the Peace in 1933. Here, the couple purchased a store at Taylor Flats. Eva has wonderful memories of her days at the store. Later when this early building became dilapidated, the Hills built another one in its place.

Not only was she a skilled nurse, but she was also a talented organist who played at the church in Taylor. She enriched the lives of the early settlers with her music, and also encouraged others in their musical endeavours.

She was also active in the community as a member of the Baldonnel Women's Institute and the Taylor Anglican WA.

Her pioneering spirit then made Eva "a Peacemaker of the North Peace."
