Janet Marshall

Janet Marshall
Born in Scotland, Janet arrived in Saskatchewan, and later married Mike Marshall in 1915. They immigrated to the west in 1927, traveling by train to Wembley, then covered wagon and flat racks to the Peace River District. Accompanying the couple were their children, Janet's parents, Mr. and Mrs. McCulloch, and all their worldly goods.

It was because of the abundance of wild roses which grew there that the old name of "Whiskey Creek" was changed by Janet to "Rose Prairie." Janet was always busy clearing land, making hay, gardening, conning and making soap. She also knitted and sewed clothes for the children, herself and Mike.

Janet helped organize the Rose Prairie Women's Institute and a school for the Community. She was also secretary of the community Club, first club in the district, which was later replaced by the Women's Institute.

The Marshall's were residents of White Rock for a time but eventually returned to this area. Mike predeceased Janet in 1968. Janet lived on until April 23,1981.
