Mary Ogilvie

Mary Ogilvie
As a Scottish bride-to-be, Mary remained in Lossiemouth while her fiance, Bob traveled to the Peace River area in 1913. He built a house on the south side of the Peace River, across from Fort St. John. Later, Mary arrived at Peace River Crossing where she married Bob and the couple returned to the Ogilvie homestead. Mary remembers those days on the river as "precious and good." Traveling was all by the river and many travelers stopped at the Ogilvie's homestead. Mary was a gracious hostess to all official visitors.

Years later, the Ogilvies moved across the river and up onto the plateau which is now Fort St. John. The Ogilvies donated the land in the southeast section of the city for Robert Ogilvie School and the Presbyterian School. Mr. Ogilvie served as Fort St. John's first magistrate. Four children were born to the Ogilvies: Jim, Kathleen, Eunice, and Margaret. Mrs. Ogilvie continued to entertain many visitors at their new home which was located on the Airport Road.

Mary passed away in December, 1972 at the age of 88.
