The Natural History of Nova Scotia was built on the work of hundreds of people. It happened because of the perserverence and vision of Dr. Derek S. Davis, former Chief Curator of Natural History at the Nova Scotia Museum. Originally published in 1984 by the Nova Scotia Museum and the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forests (now Natural Resources). Revised in 1996 with financial assistance from the Canada / Nova Scotia Cooperation Agreement on Sustainable Economic Development.
