Clipboard A section of the computer's memory. Information can temporarily be stored on the clipboard to allow the user to cut, copy or paste information to different locations, either within the document or between documents or applications.
Close To remove a file or dialog box from the program window.
Copy To make a copy of selected text or graphics which is stored on the Clipboard and then "Pasted" to another location.
Cut To remove selected text or items from a document. (This information is stored on the Clipboard and can be "Pasted" to anther location.)
Document When the user creates something in an application, either with text or graphics, this is called a document.
Edit To make changes or corrections to a document.
Exit To quit an application.
Font The size and design of the letters, numbers, punctuation, etc. which appear in a document.
Open To find and retrieve a document which has been saved on a hard drive or diskette.
Paste To insert the contents of the Clipboard in a new location.
Print To make a hard copy (paper copy) of the information in a file.
Save To store, or write, a file on a diskette or the hard drive. The file must be given a name, in order to retrieve the file at a later date.
Scroll Bar When the entire contents of a document cannot be seen on screen, a horizontal/vertical bar appears at the edge of the window so the user can "scroll" through the document.
Size Also called Font Size, this refers to the height of the typed characters. Size is usually listed in point size. (72 points = 1 inch).
Style Style refers to the formatting of a document, and includes text, spacing, font, tabs, margins, alignment, etc.
Undo This command will cancel the last command the user applied to the document. Some applications will Undo several commands.
Window The area on-screen which shows an application or document. Windows can be opened, closed, sized or moved.
