Scrapbooks
In the early
1800s some beautiful albums of high quality were produced having
elaborately tooled leather covers, gold embossed frames with gold
foil writings, engraved clasps, and brass locks. Some contained
printed pages embossed with birds and flowers to give people ideas
for choosing a theme for their collection. The first scrapbook cover
shows decorative gold gilt-stamped lettering on green paper half
bound in imitation russet leather. The second scrapbook cover shows
the image of a little girl in an elaborate gold embossed frame on
red paper.
