Make your own Scrapbook

Now that you have seen what Victorian children place in their scrapbook, how about making your own!
1. Gather together blank paper or coloured construction paper and cut four squares 24 inch long by 12 inch wide.
2. Buttonhole stitch the edges all around with bright coloured thick thread or worsted.(fig.1)
3. Then places square neatly together and stitch them directly through the center with strong thread.(fig.2)
4. Fold over and stitch again. (fig.3)
5. Pick a favorite story or nursery rhythm. Then pick cards and images that you can use in recreating your story. Cut figures out or parts of figures from different books, cards etc. and then paste them together forming new combinations of characters that you can use in your own story. Place characters in your scrapbook so as to create youÕre own version of a favorite story or nursery rhythm. For example gathering pictures of a large plant and placing a little boy climbing it you can recreate Jack and the Bean stock.
6. By cutting the figures into pieces you can make your figures do what is require of them in the story. For example standing figures can be made to sit by cutting their legs off and replacing them with feet. Human heads may be ruthlessly torn from the bodies to which they belong and then taped or glued upon strange animal shoulders. You will be surprised to see what amusing and often excellent illustrations present themselves as the result of a little ingenuity in clipping and pasting.
