Silversmiths and electroplaters, by appointment to several members of the Royal family and foreign rulers.

John Newton Mappin left the family firm of cutlers Mappin Bros. Which he subsequently bought, to found a new firm with George Webb, as his partner.

Early in the 1880's they bought the old business of Stephen Smith and Sons (formerly Smith and Nicholson),of Covent Garden,London.

In 1896 they bought Heeley Rolling Mills, a high quality foundry started in an old aluminum plant.

In 1913, they began the manufacture of a cheaper line under the name Sheffield Silver Plate and Cutlery Company.

Now part of British Silverware Ltd.
