Irene McCaugherty

Irene McCaugherty

The many paintings which begin the chapters of this collection are watercolours by southern Alberta poet and artist, Irene McCaugherty. McCaugherty was born in Hardieville, a suburb of Lethbridge, on November 27, 1914 and now lives in Fort Macleod, Alberta where she still paints and writes about southern Alberta’s pioneer days. In 1995, the University of Lethbridge bestowed upon McCaugherty an honorary Doctor of Laws degree for her work to preserve the history of southern Alberta. McCaugherty has published three books of poetry, stories, and paintings that illustrate Lethbridge’s past through her memories.
