Conclusion

The St. Mary's irrigation project was just the first of many in the area. Today southern Alberta has more irrigated land than any other place in Canada. Many people worked very hard to bring us this legacy. From the newspaper editors and letter writers who lobbied for the first irrigation system, to those people who endured back-breaking labour to build it, bringing irrigation to southern Alberta affected the entire community and continues to affect us today.
