Early Recreation and Sports Even though the nearest major centre was over 300 miles away, the people of Regina found ways to occupy themselves and foster community spirit. A wide range of outdoor activities were enjoyed both competitively and non-competitively. These included hockey and curling in the winter, and swimming and "oxen-racing" in the summer.
