Inside the Human Body - The Respiratory System

Welcome to the teachers resource page for the grade 1-3 materials presented on Inside the Human Body: The Respiratory System. If you take a quick look at the Grade 1 - 3 page you'll notice that we've layed things very simply with large images for the children to easily click on, so with a little help getting set up they'll find this site a great place to play and learn about the human body.

The Body Buddies Storybook discusses the cardiorespiratory system in a friendly and fun manner. Professair, our guide to material targeted to primary students, tells the story of his Body Buddies, the Heart and Lungs and what they can do for each other to stay healthy. The first few pages introduce students to the idea of breathing. Next the book talks about the route air takes through the lungs. Then readers learn what air does for the body. At this point the book talks about the brain's involvement in breathing and then Professair shares some amazing facts about the cardiovascular system. Instructions on how to take a persons pulse from the wrist are on page 18. Finally the book presents some good advice on keeping the heart and lungs healthy

If you take a moment to install the Java plug in (1.3 or better) for your browser your students can color in the "Smoking you're Joking" coloring book right on the computer, or build wonderful O₂ animals! If for any reason you do not install this plug in, the coloring book is also available for download in Adobe's PDF format. PDF files can be read and printed exactly the same way on any computer using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can print this coloring book, or individual pages as a fun lesson.

There are a number of games that we have designed for young children on our site. On the Mad Lab(games) page, you'll notice that we have grouped them into a column all by themselves, to make it easy for browsers to find games that are designed just for them.
