  Traditional Cree Handsignals

TIME FRAME:  2-3 Classes

- apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of movement patterns and skills.

Physical:  Students will...

- behave in ways that are personally and social responsible in physical activity settings.
- practice their traditional Cree handsignals.
- present their sentence to peers.

Affective/Spiritual:  Students will...

- respect the differences among people in physical activity settings.
- become aware that physical activity can provide enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, social interaction, work and leisure.
- work cooperatively together to complete a task.
- incorporate and respect the ideas of others.

3. PURPOSE/TEACHER BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

The purpose of this lesson is to have students' work cooperatively to develop classroom handsignals. 

4. ACTIVITIES/IDEAS:

Brainstorm with the students' what kind of handsignals they could come up for classroom use. For example, there could be a signal for quiet time or a signal to get a drink of water or a signal for journal time.  The ideas are endless.

It may be easier to divide students' into groups of 3-4 and have each group come up with some classroom handsignals and present them to the class.
