SUBJECT: Social, Language Arts

TOPIC:  Mural Presentations

TIME FRAME:  1 - 2 classes

COMMON ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS:  Communication, Independent Learning, Critical and Creative Thinking, Personal Social Values and Skills.

MATERIALS:  Completed written assignments, large white or brown rolled paper, paints, paint brushes, and water in containers.

Cognitive:  Students will..

- discuss that First Nation peoples have developed language, traditions and technologies appropriate for their lifestyles.

PsychomotorStudents will...

- identify and describe past experiences, traditions and technologies of First Nation peoples.
- use various resources to identify perspectives and points of view.

Affective/Spiritual: Students will...

- work cooperatively together to complete a task.
- respect the ideas, language and communication styles of others.

3. PURPOSE/TEACHER BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The purpose of this lesson is to give students' the opportunity to share their researched information with other students' in the class. The focus will include First Nation people of the past and present.

4. ACTIVITIES/IDEAS:

Each group will present their report in front of their classmates.  After the report has been read by each of the group members, an explanation of the mural should follow.  The mural will include images of past and present cultural practices. The presentations may take two days to complete, so display the completed ones and the murals for others to see.  After each presentation, distribute an evaluation form to the students' in order to evaluate themselves and their group.
