TOPIC:  Mask Making 

TIME FRAME:  3-4 classes

COMMON ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS:  Communication, Independent Learning, Personal Social    Values and Skills, Critical and Creative Learning.

MATERIALS:  Pictures of First Nation masks, if possible an example of a First Nation mask.

3. PURPOSE/TEACHER BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The purpose of this lesson is to have the students' view First Nations masks and to make a   mask of their own using their own design, colors and styles.

4. ACTIVITIES/IDEAS:

Search for pictures from magazines, old books or newspapers focusing on First Nation peoples masks.  They can be from any First Nations group.  Talk with the students' about the different sizes, colors and styles of masks they find.

Research a specific website which is stated in the Resources list and follow the instructions for making a mask.
