Northwest Rebellion Introduction: This unit was designed for a grade four level but can be adapted for up to grade eight. The unit focuses on the the people involved, the reasons behind, what occurred and the outcome of the Northwest Rebellion/Resistance. The goal of this unit is to develop an awareness and understanding for First Nations and Metis people during a time in history when changes and adjustments to their livelihood were being challenged. This unit is designed for a two to three week study period in the subject area of Social Studies. Rationale: The purpose of this unit is to give
students' an opportunity to involve themselves in a part of history that is significant to
First Nations and Metis people. The students' will be engaged in learning
experiences that examine the Northwest Rebellion/Resistance. The core unit of study
is on "identity" in the grade four Saskatchewan social studies curriculum guide,
which relates to the objective of this unit. There is also content on heroes in this
unit that the students' will be studying as it relates to the people behind the Northwest
Rebellion/ Resistance. Together, the aim is to create an understanding of history
that altered a way of life once contact had occurred. Foundational Objectives: Saskatchewan Social Studies Objectives Cognitive: Students will... - identify various social changes that took place during this time in history.
