Treaties in Saskatchewan Introduction Welcome to the Treaties in Saskatchewan unit. This
unit was designed for teachers who will gain knowledge in teaching about the treaties of
this country. The goal of this unit is to foster students' learning about the past
experiences of First Nations cultures which have shaped the province of
Saskatchewan. This unit is designed for a grade four level but can be adapted up to
a grade eight level. Rationale This unit is designed to introduce the treaties in Saskatchewan and the treaty making process. This unit includes brief explanations about each of the numbered treaties. The main focus will be on Treaties 4,5,6,8 and 10. It is important for students' to learn about the treaties in Saskatchewan because it give's them the opportunity to learn about how their ancestors helped shape this province. A variety of written and oral activities are included with reference to the Saskatchewan Curriculum Guides in Language Arts, Social Studies and other required areas of study. This unit focuses on Saskatchewan curriculum guidelines at the Grade 4 level, but can also be adapted. At the grade 4, the teacher should be expected to use the computers with small groups of students' at a time. Furthermore, depending upon what grade level students are this unit can be adapted for older grades to have students' look up specific websites and do research on their own. Assessment will be based on journal writing, a
portfolio of works collected throughout the unit, discussion, participation and a research
report. The time frame can span any where from 2-3 weeks but can be modified for
any time frame. Affective/Spiritual: Students will... -identify and describe past experiences, traditions, and technologies of Aboriginal
