This website contains information about different plants that were used by the Ktunaxa people.

3. PURPOSE/TEACHER BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The purpose of this lesson is to inform students' of traditional plant uses of the Ktunaxa people. The Ktunaxa are native to the southeast corner of British Columbia, northwest Montana, and northeast Idaho. They are also known as the Kootenay Indians. 4. ACTIVITIES/IDEAS:

Finding Information on the Internet about how the Ktunaxa utilized plants
Review information of how the Gitxsan people utilized plants.

Explain to students' that many different First Nations people utilized plants in different purposes.  However, many plants may be used the same way by different Nations.  Tell the students' they will be learning how the Ktunaxa people utilized plants for their purposes.

Either have students' work in small groups or by themselves and have them research the following website to find the information on how the Ktunaxa people utilized plants.

This website contains twenty plants that the Ktunaxa people used for food, technical and medicinal purposes.

Have students choose and research three plants using the provided question sheet.
