How we cooked our foods: A lot of the foods were smoked, barbecued or steamed. Foods were also dried for winter storage. Cooking was done over open fires, in a smoker or by boiling in a carved stone bowl or pot. Dried foods were often stored in crates and buried underground. They were taken out and soaked to rehydrate them before they were used.

Salmon is still smoked over an open fire much like it was 1,000 years ago.
