Today's generation of Snuneymuxw people is still very spiritual, Many people continue to practice our traditions and customs. Although many customs were lost in the rapid urbanisation of Snuneymuxw's traditional territory, the youth are beginning a new journey that will bring them back to an new understanding and respect for the past. Only through dedication and hard work can the Snuneymuxw people achieve this goal. A substantial number of Snuneymuxw members believe in the faith brought with the Europeans and forced upon their ancestors. However, Snuneymuxw First Nation will continue to work for a better and more fulfilling future for its children and its children's children, no matter what belief system it is based on.

Pictured is a church that was erected on Snuneymuxw land in 1861.
In later years this building also functioned as a school. It burned down in 1891.

Today, our school is called Qwam Qwam Stalicut It provides students with well-developed, high academic programs, individual assistance and other curriculum support. All activities aer designed to enhance the children's learning and interaction skills. Hannah White is the principal and teaches our pre-kindergarten program. She has been working at the school for more than 26 years and has lived in the community for over 47 years. Shari Kelly teaches the kindergarten-grade one program. We also have a learning assistance program, which is taught by Sandra Dube.

Our schooling program is based on the belief that by teaching the children when they are very young, we are helping prepare them more effectively for the changing world.
