Quebec
(Notre Dame des Victoires)
This
plain old stone church is in the market square of the
Lower Town. It is the oldest place of worship in Canada.
The name Notre Dame des Victoires was given to commemorate
the deliverance of the city from the attacks of the
English in 1690 and 1711, although erected in 1688.
It was damaged severely by fire during the bombardment
from Wolfe's battery at Levis during the siege of 1759,
but was restored and is today an interesting relic of
the past.
