The most common symptoms that could indicate that a person has TB are:

  • coughing a lot for several weeks,
  • having a fever for more than a week

In the early stages, you may not be able to tell if you have TB because you do not feel sick. If someone in your family has TB, you should go for a check up. Tuberculosis spreads more easily among family members living in the same house, breathing the same air.

There may be other signs of TB that depend on where TB is in your body, and you might also show no signs of TB at all. If you are concerned about signs of TB in your body, check with your doctor to find out if it is TB or not.

Your doctor might want to do some tests to make sure you don't have tuberculosis. Sometimes, the doctor can't tell for sure without looking for the TB germs under a microscope first.
