There are simple tests to help find out if you have tuberculosis:

Skin test:

A liquid is injected by a needle just under the skin on your arm. Two days later, you return to have someone look at the spot.

Sputum (spit) test:

You cough up some liquid from your lungs and spit it into a bottle. A laboratory will determine if any bacteria are present.

Chest x-ray:

A simple x-ray can sometimes show the presence of active tuberculosis.

If you have tuberculosis, your family and friends may also need to be checked for TB. You will be able to be treated at home and thus remain with your family if you have tuberculosis.
