Artist's Statement:
Gagnon questions the rapport we keep with the body, the self and nature. Her belief that humans have become unnatural animals through their own intelligence has led her to remind us of our primal fabric. She uses symbols, metaphors and analogies as the threshold into the world of the unconscious. She calls upon the universality of personal experience and refers to instinct, feelings and sensations to bring the viewer back to a more primitive period and possibly trigger thoughts of ancestral memory.

In the last decade, contemporary photographer Francine Gagnon has created five distinct bodies of work presented in eight solo shows and over 25 group exhibits. Living and working in Montreal, her works have been seen in Toronto, Boston, Guadalajara, Three-Rivers, Matane, Amos
