Prime Minister Announces Changes in the Senior Ranks of the Public Service

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the following changes in the Public Service:
Ruth Hubbard, currently President of the Public Service Commission, becomes Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office, effective July 1, 1999.
Scott Serson, currently Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, becomes Special Advisor to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, effective June 1, 1999, and will subsequently assume the position of President of the Public Service Commission, effective July 1, 1999.
Shirley Serafini, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Industry, becomes Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, effective June 1, 1999.
Suzanne Hurtubise, currently Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage, becomes Special Advisor to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, effective June 1, 1999, and will subsequently become Canada's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris.
Alexander Himelfarb, currently Associate Secretary of the Treasury Board, becomes Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage, effective June 1, 1999.
André Gladu, currently Assistant Deputy Minister (Québec Region), with Human Resources Development Canada, becomes Deputy Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Québec. He succeeds Renaud Caron who is leaving the Public Service. This appointment is effective May 26, 1999.
The Prime Minister took this opportunity to thank Mr. Caron for his leadership as Deputy Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Québec and his contribution to the public service over the past four years, and to wish him every success as he undertakes new challenges.
