Is the Cornwall port of entry open?

At this time the existing Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) facility on Cornwall Island remains closed. The CBSA has opened a temporary border crossing in the City of Cornwall at the base of the north span of the Seaway International Bridge.

What can I expect when I arrive at the temporary border crossing in the City of Cornwall?

All travellers entering Canada from the United States are required to report directly to the CBSA temporary border crossing in the City of Cornwall as required under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Customs Act. Once they are processed by the CBSA, travellers will be able to continue to their destination in the City of Cornwall or on Cornwall Island.

Will I need to present different documents at the temporary border crossing in the City of Cornwall?

No additional documentation, beyond normal requirements, is needed when seeking entry into Canada at the temporary border crossing in the City of Cornwall. Travellers are reminded to have proper identification, receipts and any other relevant documents readily available upon their arrival at the border.

Will there be delays at the border?

While there may be delays as travellers and staff become familiar with the temporary border crossing, the CBSA is working to minimize delays for travellers while ensuring the safety and security of the border.

If I am only going to Cornwall Island from the United States, do I need to report to the CBSA first?

Yes, as required under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Customs Act, all travellers must report to the CBSA without delay upon entering Canada. As the CBSA facility is now located in the City of Cornwall on a temporary basis, travellers must report there first before continuing on to their final destination. Individuals who fail to immediately report to the CBSA upon entering Canada and proceed directly to a destination on Cornwall Island will be subject to appropriate enforcement policies and sanctions.
