CBSA officers seize smuggled pain killers at the Thunder Bay International Airport

Thunder Bay, Ontario, June 4, 2013 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today the seizure of 142 suspected hydrocodone pills at the Thunder Bay International Airport.

On May 28, 2013, Courtney Roussin, 25, returned from a trip to the United States and was referred for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBSA officers discovered the suspected hydrocodone pills in Roussin's luggage. After determining that she did not have the required prescription, CBSA officers arrested her and contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Thunder Bay Detachment.

The RCMP charged Roussin with Importing a Controlled Substance under section 6(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. She will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Thunder Bay, on June 28, 2013.

"This is an excellent example of the diligent work done in collaboration with our law enforcement partners," said Tuula Schuler, CBSA's Northwestern Ontario District Director.

The CBSA and its law enforcement partners, such as the RCMP in the Northern Ontario Region, continue to work closely together to ensure the safety and security of Canadians.
