CBSA seizes more than 4 kg of suspected heroin at Vancouver International Airport

Vancouver, British Columbia, February 26, 2013 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that it has seized over 4 kilograms of suspected heroin at Vancouver International Airport – Air Cargo Operations.

On February 1, 2013 CBSA officers examined a parcel arriving by air cargo from Vietnam. According to the declaration form, the parcel contained t-shirts, hats and nine tubs of name-brand coffee whitener. However, when officers opened the tubs, they detected a strong odour inconsistent with coffee whitener. Initial tests indicated the presence of heroin. In total, approximately 4.32 kilograms of suspected heroin was seized from this shipment.

"This seizure is an excellent example of the outstanding work done by our officers," said George Morris, CBSA A/Director, Vancouver International Airport District. "Stopping the smuggling of illegal drugs into Canada plays a big part in making our communities safer."

At Air Cargo Operations, other recent drug seizures have included cocaine in copper pots, opium soaked in fabric, and steroids concealed within water heaters. Throughout Pacific Region in 2012, CBSA officers made nearly 4,300 drug seizures, keeping drugs off Canadian streets.
