CBSA seizes 3 kg of suspected heroin in a passenger's suitcase at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport

Montréal, Quebec, July 3, 2013 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that its officers have seized 3 kg of suspected heroin at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport.

The suspected drug was discovered on June 19, 2013, in the suitcase of a traveller arriving on a flight from the United Arab Emirates. The border services officers searched the suitcase and found the suspected drug packed and concealed in a false bottom. They conducted tests on the substance that showed it was suspected heroin.

"Heroin is one of the worst drugs ever and its consumption leads to dependence and serious health risks. I am proud of the diligence of CBSA officers who, by such seizures, prevent the entry of illegal drugs in Canada," said Benoît Chiquette, Regional Director General of the CBSA for the Quebec Region.

CBSA officers arrested the traveller, who was turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for further investigation.

In 2012, CBSA officers at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport, Travellers Section, carried out 205 drug seizures. During the same period, Quebec Region border services officers carried out a total of 1,653 drug seizures.
