CBSA seizes over $4 million of heroin at Toronto Pearson International Airport

Mississauga, Ontario, March 11, 2013 – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced the seizure of 10.6 kilograms of heroin, with a street value of over $4 million, at the Toronto Pearson International Airport.

On February 19, 2013, border services officers monitored a baggage offload from a flight originating from Pakistan. Officers identified several suspicious pieces of luggage and referred them for further examination. Subsequent X-ray and narcotics testing indicated positive for suspected heroin in one suitcase.

"This seizure is a great success and further showcases the excellent teamwork involved in stopping the flow of illegal narcotics to our communities," said Goran Vragovic, CBSA Regional Director General of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Region. "As always, I am proud of how diligently our officers work to fulfill the important role they play in keeping our borders safe."

The narcotics, later confirmed to be heroin, have been turned over to Peel Regional Police.
