CBSA seizes suspected cocaine at Toronto Pearson International Airport

Mississauga, Ontario, July 24, 2013 –The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today the significant seizure of suspected cocaine at Toronto Pearson International Airport (TPIA).

On July 11, 2013, border services officers working at Terminal 3 at TPIA selected a suitcase on a flight arriving from Trinidad and Tobago for further examination. Upon opening the suitcase, the officers found two backpacks inside. The backpacks contained various brick-shaped packages. Subsequent field testing of the packages proved positive for suspected cocaine.

“Border services officers continue to intercept narcotics at Toronto Pearson International Airport,” said Goran Vragovic, Regional Director General of the Greater Toronto Area Region. “CBSA officers work diligently to keep drugs out of our communities by preventing would-be smugglers from using our international airports for illegal cross-border activities.”

A total of 11 packages, weighing 11 kilograms, were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for further investigation.

If you have witnessed or are aware of an incident involving suspicious cross-border activity, please contact the CBSA Border Watch Toll-free Line at 1-888-502-9060 or the RCMP at 1-800-387-0020.
