What are your summer residence
rates?
Rates are different for Long-Term Lease Guests and Short-Term
Guests. Please refer to our website for current rates: http://umanitoba.ca/student/housing/Summer_Accommodations.htm.
When are the Residence Offices
open in the summer?
The main residence office, Arthur Mauro Residence Office, located
on the first floor of Arthur Mauro Residence will be open 7 days
a week, from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, May 1 - August 14. The second
residence office, Pembina Hall (adjacent to Mary Speechly Hall)
has regular office hours of Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Do you give tours of residence?
You can call our office at (204) 474-9922 to arrange a
tour. We try our best to accommodate your schedule; however, we
require at least 24 hours in advance to make those arrangements.
Where
are the residences located on campus?
Arthur V. Mauro Residence is located across the street from Tache
Hall at 120 Dafoe Road and MacLean Crescent. Mary Speechly Hall
is located behind Tache Hall at 26 MacLean Crescent. Please see

How do I apply to stay in Residence during
the summer?
Anyone can apply to stay in Residence during the summer from May
1 - August 14; you do NOT have to be a student at University of
Manitoba. To apply for residence simply go online: http://umanitoba.ca/student/housing/Summer_Accommodations.htm.
Complete the form, print it off, and either mail, fax,
or drop off your application. Our contact information is on the
application form.
What is the Check-in & Check-out
time?
All Guests should check-in at the Arthur Mauro Residence Office
front desk located at 120 Dafoe Road, University of Manitoba (Fort
Garry Campus). We request guests plan to Check-in after 3 p.m.
and Check-out by 10 a.m. If you plan to arrive or leave
apart from these hours, you will need to make prior arrangements
with us.

How can I pay for my stay?
Long-Term Lease Guests (over 30 nights) can pay using:
Visa, MasterCard, Debit, Cash, Traveller's Cheques (Cdn. funds),
Money Order, or Bank Draft.
Short-Term Guests (less than 30 nights) can pay in-person
using Debit or Cash or using Visa or MasterCard.
When do I pay for my stay?
For Long-Term Lease Guests the payment for your first month
must accompany the Summer Residence Application. Subsequent payments
are due on or before the 1st of the month and need to be paid
in-person at Arthur Mauro Residence Office. Late payments incur
late charges.
Short-term Guests will need to pre-pay by credit card.
How can I cancel my application? If I
want to leave earlier than I agreed on my contract, do I get my
money back?
Please thoroughly read the Cancellation Policy stated on the application
form; please ask us for clarification about anything you are uncertain
of ideally before you sign the agreement. Under certain circumstances
you may get a refund. See page 2 of the
your Application Form found on the Summer
Accommodations link.
Is parking available?
Yes, parking is available. Please contact the Parking Services
Office at (204) 474-9483 or go online for information at: http://umanitoba.ca/campus/parking.
Where
can I get meals?
The Food Service office is located on 2nd floor Pembina Hall.

What supplies are provided
- e.g., kitchenware, cleaning supplies/personal care items, linens,
etc.?
All guests will need to provide their own kitchenware, such as
dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans.
No cleaning supplies or personal care items are provided, such
as soaps, shampoo, dish detergent, etc.
Long-term guests are required to bring their own linens, including
bedding, towels, etc. Short-term stays will have these items provided
to them.
Long-term stays in Arthur V. Mauro Residence will have housekeeping
services on a rotational schedule for the kitchen and bathroom
areas only (about every 3 weeks).
Note: vacuums can be borrowed from the Front Office (when available).
How can I get around via bus,
bike, and taxi?
Buses: Buses are operated by Winnipeg Transit, and the
main university bus terminal is located on Dafoe Road. Bus schedules
are posted at the bus stops and we have some pamphlets in the
Arthur Mauro Residence Office foyer as well. For specific up-to-date

Bicycles: Bikes can be placed in the bike rack in the front
entrance of Mary Speechly Hall and the back entrance of the Arthur
Mauro Residence. The Arthur Mauro Residence also has a Bike Room
in the basement for Arthur Mauro Guests only.
Taxis: There are serveral taxi companies listed in the
phone book. Here are a few number: Duffy's 925-0101, Unicity 925-3131,

Are your buildings and rooms handicap-accessible?
We have ramps leading into the buildings and elevators to go up
to the floors. We also have five suites in the Arthur Mauro Residence
that provide relatively better accessibility than other suites.
If you have a disability and have special concerns, please contact
our office prior to booking your stay to ensure
we can accommodate you in the best way.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately, no pets are permitted.
Do
I have television and Internet access in my room?
If you stay in the Arthur Mauro Residence, cable television is
included in your room; but in Mary Speechly there are no televisions
in the rooms, but there are TVs in each
of the lounges. Internet access is available in both Arthur
Mauro and Mary Speechly at no extra charge; just bring your computer
and your cords and logon.

Do the rooms have private washrooms?
Not in Mary Speechly Hall, although there
are washrooms on each floor. However, the Arthur V. Mauro Residence
does have a private washroom in each suite, complete with shower,
which both suitemates would share.
Are there any storage facilities available?
You can store up to four items for free
while living in residence. Once your stay is complete and
you don't remove your items in storage, there will be a $10 fee
per storage tag issued when you retrieve your items at
a later date.
Once You Arrive
What kind of keys will I
have for my room?
Arthur Mauro has a key card which opens the entrance
and your suite doors and the mailbox key is a regular key.
Mary Speechly Hall Guests will have 3 keys: building
entrance key, room key, and a mailbox key.
If you lose your keys, please notify the Arthur Mauro Residence
Office. If your keys are not found, there is a charge for
lost keys and a lock change may have to be done at your expense.
Please note: lending or exchanging your keys with others violates
the Summer Residence Housing Agreement.
Where are the telephones?
Arthur Mauro rooms have telephones in the room and a
courtesy house phone in the first floor front foyer. All guests
can receive incoming calls in their room; however, you need
to sign a form and pay a fee to make outgoing calls.
Guests in Mary Speechly can use conveniently located
MTS payphones.

Where
can I do my laundry?
You only have access to the laundry room in the building you are
staying in. The Laundry Rooms are in the basement of the buildings.
Long-Term Guests will need to purchase a Laundry Card from
the Residence Office for $8.40 plus the amount you want to put
on the card.
Short-Term Guests can borrow a card and only need to put
money on the card, but must return it to the Residence Office
before they leave. You will need to provide
your own laundry detergent, as we do not sell any.
Are
there any amenities like pool tables etc.?
The basement of Arthur Mauro has a Games
Room with pool table, foosball, and ping-pong table, as well as
a Fitness Room equipped with two bikes, a treadmill, an elliptical
trainer, and exercise mats. These amenities are accessible only
to Arthur Mauro Residence Guests.
Are there any vending machines?
Vending machines with snacks and drinks are located in the basement
of the Arthur Mauro building and on the first floor of the Pembina
Hall building which is adjacent to Mary Speechly Hall.

Will someone come into my room to clean?
For Long-Term Guests in Arthur Mauro, caretakers will come
to clean your kitchen and washroom on a rotation basis.
Long-Term Guests in Mary Speechly are responsible for
maintaining their own rooms.
Garbage Rooms are located on each floor of Residence with
garbage and recycling bins.
Where is the Lost & Found?
If you find any lost and found item, you can bring it to the front
desk of the Arthur Mauro Residence Office.
How
do I get my mail?
Our office staff distributes mail into mailboxes once a
day. Mailboxes are on the first floor of Arthur Mauro and for
Mary Speechly Hall located in Pembina Hall Building.
For larger items, we place a notice card in your mailbox
alerting you to come to the Residence Office to pick up your package.
If you do not have a mailbox and are receiving mail/packages,
you can make special arrangements in advance with us to receive
your items.
Please note: only Arthur Mauro residents pick up packages from
Arthur Mauro Residence Office and only Mary Speechly Guests pick
up packages from Pembina Hall Residence Office.
Can I smoke in my room or somewhere
in the building?
The University of Manitoba is a clean air campus. Residents cannot
smoke anywhere inside the residence buildings or in any other
building on campus.

Can I have alcohol
in the Residence?
Alcohol is permitted in accordance with the Provincial Liquor
Law and the University's Campus Alcohol Policy. Guests who drink
must do so in a safe and responsible manner.
Can I have visitors stay overnight?
All overnight visitors of Long-Term Lease Guests can stay a maximum
of three nights per summer rental.
How can people contact me in my
room?
In Arthur Mauro, an intercom system located between the
front entrance doors is connected to the phone in your room. Your
guests can look for you in this system. You need to come to the
lobby to receive your guests, as we do not open the inside residence
entrance doors for people.
Mary Speechly guests will need to arrange how to receive
their visitors in advance, as there is no intercom system in the
building or any phones in those rooms.
