Webcasts

From time to time, the College creates on-demand videos of interest to nurses, nursing educators and other stakeholders who wish to learn more about current regulatory issues and the role the College plays in nursing regulation.

New webcasts will be advertised on www.cno.org and in The Standard. Past webcasts can be accessed from this page.

  • Documentation Webcast

Nursing documentation is an important component of nursing practice and the interprofessional documentation that occurs within the client’s health record. Documentation, whether paper, electronic, audio or visual is used to monitor a client’s progress and communicate with other care providers. It also reflects the nursing care that is provided to a client. This webcast is based on the College’s Documentation, Revised 2008 practice standard which applies to all nurses in all roles in all practice settings.

  • myQA: Self-Assessment webcast

This webcast provides you with an overview of the Self-Assessment component of the QA Program. You will learn how to use the online myQA site to complete your Self-Assessment, including the Practice Reflection process and developing your Learning Plan by creating goals and learning activities. It is mandatory for all nurses in the General and Extended Classes to complete Self-Assessment.

  • Practice Reflection Webcasts

The College has created three videos that show how practice reflection is an important part of every nurse's practice.
  • Quality Assurance Program: Overview

The College's Quality Assurance Program is based on the principle that life-long learning is essential to continuing competence. Nurses demonstrate their commitment to continually improving their nursing practice in every setting by engaging in practice reflection and setting and achieveing learning goals. It is mandatory for every nurse registered in the General or Extended Class in Ontario to participate in the QA program.

  • RN and RPN Practice: The Client, the Nurse and the Environment webcast

Three factors –– the client, the nurse and the environment –– affect the decision-making about which nursing category is best for specific roles in client care, and determine the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. This webcast is based on the RN and RPN Practice: The Nurse, the Client and the Environment practice document which discusses concepts that apply to RNs and RPNs in all roles in all practice settings.

  • Social Media: Reflect Before You Post

One of the key challenges for nurses is knowing how to use social media while safeguarding the public interest and trust. This webcast focuses on your accountability when using social media. Using scenarios, it discusses examples of College practice standards that nurses can use to reflect and make sound decisions when using social media.

  • Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship: Maintaining Boundaries

At the core of nursing practice is the therapeutic nurse-client relationship. The nurse establishes and maintains this key relationship by using nursing knowledge and skills as well as applying caring attitudes and behaviours. The therapeutic nurse-client relationship contributes to a client's health and well-being. This webcast is based on the College's Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship, Revised 2006 practice document which applies to all nurses, in all roles and practice settings.
