Investigations

The CBSA operates a customs investigations program to deal with suspected cases of duty evasion, smuggling, fraud and other offences against laws enforced by customs. This program constitutes a fundamental part of the Agency's enforcement presence and is essential to ensure a level playing field for all Canadians and Canadian businesses, as well as ensuring that Canadians are protected from the importation of prohibited, restricted or hazardous goods.

Types of investigations

The Leads and Assistance Program follows up on leads provided by concerned citizens. It also co-ordinates the CBSA's response to requests for assistance that we receive from other Canadian and international enforcement agencies.

The Criminal Investigations Program investigates suspected duty evasion, fraud, smuggling, and other serious violations of customs laws.
