G7 Electronic Data Interchange Export Reporting

Voluntary participation in G7 Electronic Data Interchange Export Reporting allows Canadian exporters to file export declarations electronically for each shipment, using electronic data interchange (EDI). Although the process is a G7 initiative, it is not restricted to shipments being exported to G7 countries.

Benefits of G7 Electronic Data Interchange Export Reporting

Canadian exporters who participate in the process benefit from:

• no longer being required to complete and file a paper copy of Form B13A, Export Declaration (PDF, 330  KB) [help with PDF files] ;
• being able to provide an electronic copy of the G7 export declaration to the importer or agent in the importing country that has implemented the G7 data set and electronic messages. The importer or agent will be able to re-use the G7 export information required by the importing country.

How to apply

Service providers, exporters and exporters represented by service providers who wish to participate in this process are required to register.

Current users of the Canadian Automated Export Declaration Program (CAED) must also register for G7.

1. You will need a valid Business Number to complete your application.
2. Fax your completed registration Form BSF158 (PDF, 70 KB) [help with PDF files], Application for G7 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Export Reporting, to Statistics Canada (1-888-269-5305 or (613) 951-6823).

Statistics Canada will assign license and authorization ID numbers and forward the application to the CBSA for processing.

• Exporters NOT represented by a service provider will be assigned individual license and authorization ID numbers.
• Exporters represented by a service provider will be assigned a unique authorization ID number.
• Service providers will be assigned a license and authorization ID number.

The CBSA will provide a G7 export acceptance test package to service providers or exporters who will be transmitting G7 EDI export declarations directly. Once testing is completed, transmissions of G7 EDI export declarations can begin.

Once your application is accepted, you must sign an EDI Memorandum of Understanding for G7 Electronic Export confirming that you agree to abide by and meet the established CBSA standards and conditions as an EDI participant.

Alternate Reporting Methods

At present, Canadian exporters can also complete their declarations using various methods such as:

• Form B13A, Export Declaration (PDF, 330 KB) [help with PDF files],
• Canadian Automated Export Declaration (CAED) Program,
• Summary reporting.
