Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Deputy Receiver General for Canada
George Da Pont
On January 6, 2015, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the appointment of George Da Pont as Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services, effective January 21, 2015.
Prior to joining the Department, Mr. Da Pont was Deputy Minister of Health. In this position, he worked on high-level projects such as the Protecting Canadians from Unsafe Drugs Act (Vanessa’s Law) and the launch of Health Canada’s Regulatory Transparency and Openness Framework and Action Plan.
From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Da Pont served as President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, working in close collaboration with Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. He served as Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard from 2005 to 2010 and has also held a number of senior positions at the Privy Council Office, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.
Mr. Da Pont holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science and a Master of Arts degree in History, both obtained at the University of Saskatchewan.
