Flag Manitoba

Winnipeg is situated close to some of the best mineral and fossil collecting localities in the province. A variety of pegmatite minerals, some very rare, occur near Bernic Lake. Beryl and tourmaline are found at the TANCO mine. World famous selenite specimens of exceptional quality are extracted from the Red River Floodway. Fine Ordovician fossils are found by Tyndal and Stony Mountain. Rare Devonian fish fossils have been found near Steeprock. Agate and petrified wood can be collected near Souris.
