Flag Nunavut Territory

Nunavut Territory was created on April 1, 1999. Notable mineral localities occur in this territory. Well-formed and unusual pyrite and calcite specimens have been extracted from the Nanisivik Mine on Baffin Island. Fine galena specimens are found at the Polaris Mine, on Little Cornwallis Island. Canada's famous Inuit soapstone carvings come from Nunavut. Collectors are cautioned, as soapstone can only be collected by the Inuit.
