Willowdale Gem & Mineral Club Toronto, Ontario |
|
About our Club:Our Willowdale Gem & Mineral Club was founded in 1963. In December 1997, we became incorporated following an update to our club constitution. The club's membership is drawn primarily from residents of Toronto and it's surrounding communities. We maintain close contact with other gem and mineral clubs in the greater Toronto area, and a few of our members hold memberships in these clubs as well. The purpose of our club is to encourage and promote all aspects of the hobby of collecting and studying rocks, minerals and fossils, and of pursuing all types of lapidary work. Our club also provides a forum for a free exchange of information and ideas regarding the hobby. In recent years, the club's main thrust has been to feature a strong program of qualified speakers on a wide spectrum of gem and mineral topics. Our regular meetings include a mineral of the month with presentation of member's specimens and a discussion of the mineral's properties. Most meetings include a silent auction of several mineral specimens, gem and mineral books and periodicals. The club's annual program includes a gem and mineral show with dealers and exhibits, an auction of club member's gems and minerals and related items, plus special events such as a potluck supper and banquet. Field trips are arranged through the Central Canadian Federation of Mineralogical Societies (CCFMS). Our club is a member of the Central Canadian Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
