Alberta/Northwest Territories Region

Welcome to the Public Health Agency of Canada`s Alberta/NWT Region (PHAC AB/NWT)

PHAC AB/NWT works with partners to support public health and health promotion initiatives in Alberta. PHAC's community based programs in the Northwest Territories are managed through an agreement with the Northern Region.

Our work is guided by three themes:

  • A population health approach addresses the root causes of health disparities.
  • Strengthening sustainable social, economic and environmental development, supports communities in meeting their needs and those of future generations.
  • Our region supports Alberta’s Official Language Minority Communities and recognizes the benefit of cultural diversity and inclusive communities.

We focus on building community capacity, developing knowledge about regional public health issues and facilitating collaboration among people from diverse sectors. The principles of population health, health promotion and healthy public policy development are integral to our work.

This website showcases some of the innovative work of PHAC staff and partners in Alberta. On the site, you will find information about our funding programs and priorities, descriptions of the community-based projects we have funded with these programs in recent years and resources on population health developed in our Region.
