CIPARS Reporting

CIPARS generates an annual report summarizing the main antimicrobial resistance findings from all of CIPARS components.  The annual report also integrates information related to human consumption of antimicrobials.  In an effort to deliver the information in a timely fashion, CIPARS now posts an annual preliminary report containing antimicrobial results available at the time of analysis.  CIPARS also posts web-based ad-hoc reports highlighting issues on antimicrobial resistance and/or antimicrobial consumption. 

CIPARS provides prevalence of antimicrobial resistance to individual antimicrobials; information related to antimicrobial resistance patterns and multiple drug resistance, and recovery rates for its active components and serotypes distribution.  Resistance results are presented according to the Health Canada Veterinary Drug Directorate classification of antimicrobial drugs based on their importance in human medicine.  Drug consumption data are interpreted in collaboration with the Canadian Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance (CCAR).  When appropriate, CIPARS integrates data from various sources in order to explore relationships between antimicrobial resistance in isolates from Canada’s agri-food sector and human sectors.

CIPARS results are useful to a broad variety of stakeholders and end-users, including the Veterinary Drugs Directorate, and Food Directorate’s Bureau of Microbial Hazards , and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency .  Drug use information has been useful to provincial groups as well.
